The commercial production of the second unit of the Matarbari coal-based power plant is set to commence in June, adding to Bangladesh’s energy capacity. The plant, constructed with Japanese financial assistance, is a significant milestone in the nation’s power generation efforts. The Matarbari power plant project, owned entirely by the government, is one of the largest coal-based power plants in the country. With a capacity of 1,200 MW, it is being implemented by the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) with support from Japan’s development agency JICA. The project, situated on 1,608 acres of land, has made significant progress, with physical and financial progress at 86% and 81%, respectively.
