Conda Art Materials Faces Tk18 Crore Fine

Industry: Stationery, Stationery & Printing
Company: Conda Art Materials Bangladesh Co.Ltd.
Company Intelligence Tag: Regulatory Insights

Chinese company Conda Art Materials Bangladesh exported products labeled ‘Made in Bangladesh’ to the United States, which were actually manufactured in China, violating local and international ‘Country of Origin’ laws. This evasion of revenue amounted to Tk 15.2 crore, leading to a fine of Tk 18.2 crore imposed by the Chattogram Bond Commissionerate.

The company misused bond facilities meant for foreign exchange earnings, importing commercial goods instead of raw materials and making false declarations. Such practices not only result in revenue loss for the government but also risk damaging Bangladesh’s reputation and hindering exports. The Commissioner found the company guilty of violating the Customs Act and Bonded Warehouse Licensing Rules, imposing a substantial fine for the offenses.
