Zodiac Power Mirsharai Limited, a subsidiary of Confidence Power Holdings, is planning to construct Bangladesh’s second-largest private power plant in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN). The proposed plant will have a capacity of 660 MW and will be either gas-based or re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) based, with an estimated cost of $550 million.

The company has already deposited Tk52 crore as leasing fee for a 33-acre land area and aims to finalize the land lease agreement soon. The power plant is expected to be operational by June 2027. Confidence Power Holdings has partnered with American General Electric, which will own 20% of the project share. However, there are concerns regarding gas supply to the power plant due to existing gas-based power plants facing shortages. Confidence Power has the option to import gas on its own to meet the requirements if needed. Bangladesh’s total electricity production capacity is 28,134 MW, with private power plants contributing 10,115 MW.
