Potato production costs Tk 16 per kg, but consumers pay Tk 36-40 per kg, yielding traders a profit of Tk 20-24 per kg. Farmers receive only Tk 4 of this profit. Prices rose due to early potato shortages, with new potatoes yet to arrive from many regions. Market analysis shows profit distribution: farmers Tk 3-6 per kg, merchants Tk 5-7 per kg, wholesalers Tk 5 per kg, and retailers Tk 4-7 per kg. The government plans to import 94,000 tonnes of potatoes from India to stabilize prices.
