Cox’s Bazar Sadar’s 60 MW wind power project is contributing around 15-20 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid on a daily basis, operating experimentally. In the past month, the project has added 27 lakh kilowatt hours of electricity to the grid. The commercial production of the plant is expected to commence in September or November, ultimately adding the full 60 MW capacity to the national grid.
The project, established by private firm US-DK Green Energy (BD) Ltd with Chinese financial support, features a total of 22 turbines to be installed across three coastal unions. Each turbine generates 3 MW of electricity, and ten turbines have already been installed. The project is considered environmentally and economically sustainable, with minimal impact on the economy and the environment. Once completed, it is expected to enhance Bangladesh’s clean energy sector.
