CPA to Launch Digital Gate Fee System by Late November

Industry: Logistics & Shipping

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) is set to fully implement a digital gate fee payment system for cargo vehicles by late November, reducing vehicle entry time from 15-20 minutes to just 1-2 minutes. This system, initially introduced in July 2021 but delayed due to a lack of trained professionals, allows drivers to pre-pay the Tk57.50 entry fee via mobile banking, eliminating manual processing delays and expected to cut congestion significantly. Around 100,000 port workers have already registered under this digital system.

The digital initiative, part of CPA’s broader Terminal Operating System (TOS), aims to streamline entry for the 8,000 vehicles that access the port daily. Clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents are also transitioning to the digital process. Industry leaders like Chowdhury Zafar Ahmed and Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu praised the system for reducing unofficial fees and enhancing operational efficiency, while CPA director of security, Lt Col Md Jahirul Islam, expects 100% implementation by mid-November.
