The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has urged Bangladesh’s interim government to reopen tenders for 37 cancelled renewable energy projects, totaling around 3,102 megawatts (MW), which were awarded without competitive bidding. They proposed a “reverse auction” method to attract multiple suppliers and enhance investor confidence in the clean energy sector.
CPD officials warned that the project’s cancellation could deter investments, particularly from Chinese investors, and emphasized the need for a transparent procurement process. They also highlighted challenges such as currency volatility and bureaucratic hurdles, while the government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining policy consistency to foster a stable investment environment.
