The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) highlighted the urgent need for Bangladesh to enhance its transmission infrastructure to attract Chinese investment in renewable energy. At a Dhaka dialogue, CPD proposed using a short-term Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model to address infrastructure gaps and meet investor expectations. CPD Research Director Khondaker Golam Moazzem identified key challenges, including currency volatility, bureaucratic delays, financing difficulties, land acquisition issues, and grid limitations. He also noted Chinese investors’ concerns over Bangladesh’s preference for domestic dispute resolution, which conflicts with international norms favoring neutral arbitration.
