In the latter half of 2023, CSR spending by banks in health declined by 67%, and climate change initiatives dropped by 71%, as per Bangladesh Bank data. Overall CSR expenditure decreased by 38%, with total spending at Tk924.32 crore. Among sectors, healthcare accounted for 31.26% of spending, followed by education at 17.65%, and environmental efforts at 7.38%. Notably, five scheduled banks did not allocate any CSR funds. Islami Bank Bangladesh led in CSR spending with nearly Tk100 crore, followed by Dutch-Bangla Bank and Jamuna Bank. Additionally, non-bank financial institutions allocated Tk5.36 crore to CSR initiatives, with healthcare, education, and environmental projects receiving the highest shares.
