Chattogram Port experienced a decline in laden import and export container handling in October 2023. Export container handling dropped by 7.45%, while import container handling decreased by 2.57% during the month.
Comparing October 2023 to the same month in 2022, import container handling increased by 6%, while export container handling was 10.97% lower. These fluctuations have been attributed to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has disrupted the dynamics of import and export trade. The conflict has reduced demand for ready-made garments among foreign buyers, impacting the handling of export goods. About 92% of Bangladesh’s import and export trade is conducted through Chattogram Port, making these changes significant for the country’s trade landscape.
