Delta Life Insurance Company has again postponed its annual general meetings (AGM) for 2019, 2020, and 2021 following a Supreme Court order. The court directed the AGMs to be rescheduled and held by December 31, 2023. The company, previously in a dispute with the insurance regulator, now faces challenges due to shareholder rivalry, leading to deferrals in board meetings.
The absence of an audit committee chairman delayed the adoption of financial statements, prompting the Supreme Court to appoint the senior lawyer as the chairman. Shareholders complained about the financial statements not aligning with special audits by regulators.
The court appointed Justice as Delta Life’s independent chairman and directed the audit committee to adhere strictly to the court-recognized 2022 compromise. Analysts fear further delays in AGMs due to statutory audit requirements. Delta Life shares were stagnant at Tk136.5 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
