The demand for air ambulances in Bangladesh has risen due to increased affordability and the emergence of multiple operators. Helicopters are now frequently used to transport patients from distant districts like Dinajpur, Cox’s Bazar, and Rangpur to Dhaka, with monthly flights per area rising from one or two to six or seven. Currently, six local companies offer domestic helicopter services, with fares ranging from Tk 1 lakh for nearby areas like Faridpur to Tk 3.5 lakh or more for distant regions like Dinajpur, Cox’s Bazar, and Rangpur, sometimes reaching Tk 5 lakh during peak demand. Meghna Aviation, for instance, has seen its medical flights increase from two or three per month in 2018 to 15 to 20 presently, with an investment of Tk 145 crore in air ambulance services. Impress Aviation operates 22 to 25 medical flights monthly, investing Tk 30 crore and employing 30 staff. The sector has faced challenges post-Padma Bridge opening in 2022, reducing demand from nearby districts.
