The Democratic Budget Movement and Oxfam, Bangladesh, have called for raising the tax-free income threshold to Tk6 lakh in the next fiscal year’s budget. At a budget analysis event on 29 May, economists and experts highlighted the inadequacy of current social safety programmes in addressing rising inflation. They urged the government to increase funding for social security and recommended guaranteeing a minimum of 100 workdays per year for the poorest individuals, with a daily wage of Tk500. The was co-hosted by the Democratic Budget Movement and Oxfam, Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Safety and Rights Society, Participatory Research Action and Network, and The Earth.
