Conflicts between government agencies have reportedly delayed the construction of the southern metro-rail route, MRT-5 Line, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, under a $4.8 billion project. The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), the implementing agency, and the Economic Relations Division (ERD) have been at odds over co-financing. DMTCL initially opposed co-financing and preferred the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as the sole external financer, while ERD favored co-financing with South Korea, offering more favorable loan terms. The conflicts have potentially hindered the start of construction, but a recent breakthrough indicates progress, with DMTCL agreeing to co-financing with Korea. The metro-rail project aims to improve east-west train communications in the congested capital city.
