Doreen Power Generations and Systems Limited’s auditor, ACNABIN Chartered Accountants, raises concerns in the fiscal 2022-23 report as three power plants face closure by February 2024 due to contract expirations. Contracts for the Tangail and Feni plants, signed with Bangladesh Power Development Board in 2007, ended this year and will expire in February 2024, respectively.
The Narsingdi plant’s contract with the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board is set to expire in December 2023. Doreen Power applied for contract extensions, expressing confidence in government approvals. Despite Summit Power’s successful extension, Doreen Power’s closure impact may be limited due to subsidiaries. In FY23, the company’s consolidated profit fell 61%, primarily attributed to foreign exchange losses. Doreen Power plans an 11% cash dividend for the last fiscal year. The industry faces challenges with import bills due to the dollar’s appreciation. The annual general meeting is scheduled for December 7.
