Dr. Khawza Appointed as Pro VC of GUB

Mirza Azhar Ahmad has recently been appointed as the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bank Asia PLC, according to an announcement made on November 30. With over two decades of experience in the banking sector, he brings expertise in diverse areas such as branch and card operations, centralized clearing, cash management, ATM services, retail loan administration, and treasury back-office functions.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) rejected a proposal for the reappointment of ICB Islamic Bank's managing director, citing evidence of his involvement in mismanagement, money laundering, and embezzlement. The bank's board chairman had sought the reappointment of Muhammad Shafiq Bin Abdullah, who has held the position since 2013.

NRB Bank PLC has promoted Md Shakir Amin Chowdhury to Additional Managing Director (AMD). Previously serving as Deputy Managing Director, Chowdhury brings 38 years of banking experience. He began his career at Arab Bangladesh Bank PLC (now AB Bank) as a trainee officer and held various roles including branch manager, corporate banking, credit management, and foreign trade.

United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) and Dhaka International University (DIU) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate various banking services, including tuition fee collection and other financial facilities.

Southeast Bank PLC recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tiny Tots and Summerfield International School to offer comprehensive banking solutions, including tuition fee collection, payroll services, and school banking. The agreement, signed on November 22 at the bank's Gulshan head office, will enable the English medium school to utilize the bank’s extensive channels for efficient fee collection.

BAT Bangladesh appointed Professor Dr. Melita Mehjabeen as an Independent Director during a board meeting on November 12, 2024. With nearly 20 years of diverse experience in academia, financial services, research, and corporate governance, she brings significant expertise to the board. A faculty member at Dhaka University's Institute of Business Administration, she teaches finance, accounting, ethics, and leadership.
