DWASA faces a financial challenge due to rising foreign exchange rates, resulting in a funding gap of Tk 1,665 crore for six projects. Seeking government intervention, DWASA has appealed to the Ministry of Finance for compensation. The projects, initiated in fiscal years 2022 and 2023, now incur additional costs due to a 20% increase in the US dollar exchange rate. DWASA’s income from water does not cover expenses, necessitating government support. The ongoing renovation of old water lines aims to reduce system losses from 40% to 5%. However, completion depends on government assistance. Dhaka WASA aims to increase surface water supply to 75% to combat declining groundwater levels. Projects like the Padma water treatment plant and DESWSP focus on enhancing water supply and sewage management. DWASA, founded in 1963, operates under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives, striving to provide safe drinking water to Dhaka residents.
