Local e-commerce companies in Bangladesh are reluctant to obtain Digital Business Identification (DBID) due to technical challenges and complex regulations. Currently, only 2% of e-CAB members have applied for DBID, with just 14% of those receiving approval. The low adoption rate is due to the complicated application process, the lack of benefits such as trade license equivalency, and difficulties in securing bank accounts or loans. To address these issues, e-CAB has repeatedly proposed simplifying the process, offering tax incentives, and recognizing DBID as an alternative to a trade license. The DBID system, introduced by the government in 2022 to bring order to the e-commerce sector after several scandals, remains underutilized.
