Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) demonstrated robust financial performance in 2023, with net profits reaching Tk 612.06 crore, marking a notable increase of 19.57% compared to the previous year’s figure of Tk 511.86 crore. Despite the increase in profits, the bank experienced a rise in its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio, which climbed from 2.78% in 2022 to 3.10% in 2023.
In terms of financial indicators, EBL reported an earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 5.07 for 2023, compared to Tk 4.24 for 2022. Additionally, the consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share increased to Tk 33.37 in 2023 from Tk 29.62 in the previous year. As of February 2024, sponsor-directors held a 30.67% stake, institutional investors owned 47.05%, foreign investors had a 0.08% share, and the general public held 22.20%, according to data from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
