Educated Unemployment Doubles to 800,000 in 5 Years

Economic Tag: Employment

Bangladesh is experiencing a troubling rise in educated unemployment, with the number of jobless individuals holding bachelor’s or master’s degrees doubling to 800,000 in just five years, now comprising 31% of the total unemployed. Despite economic growth, the job market has not kept pace, leaving many highly educated youths in precarious positions, resorting to informal or low-skilled work. Contributing factors include a stagnant private investment rate, high inflation, and a limited number of government job opportunities. As 83% of the unemployed are aged 15-29, concerns over employment dominate, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced investment and skill development to address this growing crisis.
