Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB) is moving forward with plans to set up a 220MW solar power plant in Sonagazi, Feni district, expanding on its existing 75MW solar plant. The company has already conducted a feasibility study and is now inviting consultancy firms to perform a grid impact study. The new plant will benefit from the existing transmission infrastructure, avoiding the need for separate transmission facilities. EGCB is seeking foreign and domestic funding for the project. Previous solar projects were financed by the World Bank, and discussions with other funding partners like Japan’s Marubeni Corporation and Hero Future Energies are ongoing. Bangladesh’s total renewable energy capacity stands at 1,558MW, with solar accounting for 1,264MW of that total.
