Egg prices in Bangladesh have dropped to Tk 11.35-11.50 per piece, below the government-fixed rate of Tk 12, marking the first decline in nine months in 2023. Traders attribute the drop to decreased winter demand, as vegetable prices typically decrease during this season. Prices had previously risen to Tk 13.50 per piece in March amid volatility in the farm chicken and egg market. Currently, farm eggs retail at Tk 135 per dozen in the capital’s kitchen markets, down from Tk 140-145 per dozen three days ago.
Wholesale prices fell from Tk 11.20-11.50 to Tk 8.80-8.60 within two days. Despite the absence of imported eggs in Dhaka markets, prices are expected to remain low until the next Ramadan, with minor fluctuations of Tk 0.20-0.30 anticipated.
