In the past four days, egg prices have risen by Tk 5 to Tk 15 per dozen at the retail level due to increases in the wholesale market. Prices of brown eggs reached Tk 135 and white eggs Tk 125 per dozen, up from Tk 120 and Tk 115 respectively. Wholesale prices rose by Tk 20 to Tk 30 per 100 pieces daily. Marginal farmers allege an egg syndicate in Tejgaon, Dhaka, manipulating prices through social media. The Bangladesh Poultry Association raised wholesale prices by Tk 180 per 100 white eggs and Tk 150 per 100 brown eggs. The National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection discovered 2.8 lakh eggs stored in suspicious conditions. Chicken prices have also surged, with broilers selling at Tk 210 to Tk 220 per kg and golden breed chickens at Tk 370 to Tk 390 per kg.
