Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh are expanding cold storage facilities to include onions and carrots, aiming to reduce post-harvest losses. Currently, the country has over 400 cold storage units primarily for potatoes. Notably, a 500-tonne capacity cold storage using Dutch technology has been constructed, and plans are underway for carrot preservation, with an initial investment estimated around Tk7 crore. Additionally, there’s a push for low-interest funding to support these initiatives, as high interest rates hinder profitability. Entrepreneurs also face challenges with import tariffs, particularly on compressor parts, urging for reductions to facilitate equipment procurement.
