The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh is resisting depositing its Tk 3.0 billion surplus funds into the government exchequer. While the government urged state agencies to deposit surplus funds to finance development projects in 2020, the EPB seeks to retain the money for its ongoing projects and gratuity and pension funds. The EPB board of directors has requested the Ministry of Commerce to reconsider this call. The EPB currently holds around Tk 7.0 billion in bank deposits, but it needs Tk 8.62 billion for various projects and fund operations. Depositing the surplus funds would create a deficit for the EPB to implement projects and meet operational costs, potentially leading to government financing later on.
