EU Commends BD’s Regulatory Proactiveness on GSP Plus Transition

The European Union’s Ambassador to Bangladesh commended the country’s proactive approach to new regulations, particularly in anticipation of transitioning to GSP plus status. He praised Bangladesh’s seriousness in addressing regulatory matters early on and noted the impressive collaboration between business, government authorities, and civil society. Emphasizing future collaboration, especially in security and defense, he highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts in combating Islamist extremism and terrorism.

The envoy expressed eagerness for further dialogue on climate change and security, citing a new project aimed at addressing security impacts of climate change. He underscored the importance of listening to Bangladesh’s perspectives, particularly ahead of climate change discussions. The ambassador acknowledged Bangladesh’s growing influence on global issues like safety, security, and peace-building. He emphasized trade as a cornerstone of Bangladesh-EU relations, noting signs of growth and diversification in exports. Regarding Bangladesh’s choices in international partnerships, he highlighted the country’s favorable position for collaboration due to its healthy debt-to-GDP ratio and track record of debt repayment.
