The European Union (EU) has increased its aid to assist those affected by Cyclone Remal by an additional €0.7 million, bringing its total contribution to nearly €2 million. This funding supports the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in delivering emergency response efforts. €200,000 is newly released to IFRC’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), while €500,000 comes from previous EU funding. The aid aims to benefit 650,000 vulnerable individuals, including children, women, and persons with disabilities. It includes cash assistance for essential needs, mobile medical teams for healthcare, and disease prevention campaigns ahead of the monsoon season. Cyclone Remal struck Bangladesh on May 26, 2024, causing extensive damage and flooding, prompting the EU’s initial €1.2 million funding announcement on June 3.
