EU Grants €300,000 Aid for Rohingya Refugees

Economic Tag: Foreign Aid

The European Union (EU) has allocated €300,000 in response to the recent fire in Cox’s Bazar refugee camp, home to almost 1 million Rohingya refugees. The funding aims to provide immediate emergency assistance for the affected population, addressing urgent needs such as shelter, water, and site development. The assistance, implemented by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), will complement efforts of other humanitarian partners. The fire in Camp 5 left over 5,000 people without shelter, damaging communal facilities and displacing refugees. The EU’s rapid response follows previous contributions, with over €38 million provided last year for humanitarian aid in Bangladesh, particularly addressing the Rohingya refugee crisis and mitigating natural hazards.
