Gas supply in Bangladesh is expected to increase as US-based Excelerate Energy resumes LNG re-gasification at its expanded capacity Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU), Excellence, following a two-month overhaul. The FSRU, Bangladesh’s first, underwent its first overhaul since starting operations in August 2018. After leaving Singapore’s dry dock for mooring in the Bay of Bengal, it will enhance re-gasification capacity by 20% to 4.5 MTPA or 600 million cubic feet per day. The country’s total LNG re-gasification capacity will rise from 1,000mmcfd to 1,100mmcfd. The government reduced spot market LNG imports during the overhaul, maintaining long-term supplier agreements. The overhaul aims to meet increased demand and boost overall natural gas output.
