The Bangladesh government is expected to award US company Excelerate Energy a contract to construct a new floating LNG terminal near Payra seaport, along with the necessary pipelines. The project, implemented under the build, own, and operate (BOO) modality, aims to increase the country’s LNG re-gasification capacity by around 1,000 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). This will be Excelerate Energy’s second floating storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU) in Bangladesh, following the existing facility at Moheshkhali Island. The government is making efforts to develop RLNG capacity to meet growing energy demands, although concerns have been raised regarding potential monopolistic practices in the private sector.
