The Bangladesh Bank reconstituted the board of Exim Bank, ending Nazrul Islam Mazumder’s long-standing control as chairman. Mazumder, who co-founded the bank in 1999, was removed amid allegations of policy manipulation and regulatory breaches. His wife Nasreen Islam was also ousted from the board. The new five-member board includes independent directors SM Rezaul Karim and Khandaker Mamun, alongside retained members Md. Nazrul Islam Swapan, Md. Nurul Amin, and Anjan Kumar Saha. This move aims to safeguard depositors’ interests and ensure good governance. The central bank has previously reformed boards of several other banks and plans to continue this process to address banking sector issues.
