Despite the dollar crisis, Bangladesh has experienced a surge in expatriate income, particularly evident since the onset of Ramadan. According to recent data from the central bank, remittances totaled $141.44 million in the first 22 days of March 2024, with contributions from state-owned banks ($18.25 million), specialized banks ($2.15 million), private banks ($120.48 million), and foreign banks ($5.7 million). This influx follows a trend of increasing remittances, with $2.1 billion recorded in January and $2.166 billion in February. For the fiscal year 2022-23, remittances totaled $2.161 billion, compared to $2.103 billion in the previous year and a peak of $2.478 billion in 2020-21. This surge in remittances signifies a significant source of foreign exchange inflow, mitigating the impact of the dollar crisis in Bangladesh.
