Bangladesh’s export earnings for the first quarter of FY25 rose by 5.04%, reaching $11.37 billion despite production disruptions due to student protests, curfews, and labor unrests. Exporters, however, have expressed skepticism about the growth, citing significant industrial impacts during this period. Data from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) shows that readymade garment exports increased by 5.34% to $9.29 billion, with knitwear and woven garments growing by 5.72% and 4.85%, respectively. Leather and leather goods exports also rose by 11.16%. Despite the challenges, the government has set an ambitious export target of $50 billion for FY25, with a significant focus on the garment sector. However, exporters argue that actual production and export figures may be lower due to ongoing disruptions.
