Bangladesh’s export-oriented industries will no longer face value-added tax (VAT) on port services for raw material imports and finished goods exports, as per a new directive from the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The directive applies to 100% export-oriented industries, deemed exporters, and firms in export processing zones (EPZs). This move, a reversal of the Finance Act of 2022, aims to alleviate the additional cost burden previously imposed on exporters. Industry stakeholders, including the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), welcomed the decision, anticipating increased competitiveness in international markets. The reinstated VAT exemption is seen as a positive development for export-oriented businesses in Bangladesh.
