Bangladesh’s fisheries sector seeks policy support from the government, including the establishment of two economic zones, to boost exports of shrimps, crabs, and various fish species. Speakers at the first meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Fisheries highlighted the potential for earning foreign exchange through exports. They emphasized the need for increased fish production to meet local and international demands, projecting a requirement of 6 million metric tons of fish by 2030 for a population of 24 crore. Resolving conflicting issues among ministries was seen as vital for attracting investment. The Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries supported the demand for economic zones and emphasized the ministry’s efforts to enhance fish exports while taking a strict stance against illegal fishing methods. The committee, chaired by the president of the Bangladesh Non-Packer Frozen Foods Exporters Association, discussed strategies for sectoral development, with participation from FBCCI officials and other stakeholders.
