The fifth shipment of uranium fuel for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh arrived in Rooppur under tight security. The convoy carrying the uranium fuel entered the project area, marking another step towards the completion of the nuclear power facility. The plant is a joint project between Bangladesh and Russia and is set to become a significant addition to the country’s power generation capacity. Once operational, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to produce 2,400 MW of power, with its first unit projected to come online in July 2024 and the second unit in July 2025. This development signals Bangladesh’s entry into the group of countries that utilize nuclear energy for power generation, enhancing its energy diversity and security.
