The Commerce Minister announced that the first batch of imported eggs, totaling 150 million pieces, is expected to arrive in Bangladesh. Fifteen companies have been authorized to import eggs to stabilize market prices, with seven firms having opened LCs.
The delay is attributed to the time required for importers to obtain a certificate from exporting countries, confirming the eggs’ freedom from avian influenza and harmful bacteria. The Commerce Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to providing essential commodities, including rice, at affordable prices to 10 million family cardholders, benefitting 50 million people.
Market monitoring is ongoing, and discussions on potato imports will occur if prices rise further. Plans to convert 10 million family cards into smart cards are underway, promoting transparency in distribution.
