Bangladesh’s first commercial wind power plant, with a capacity of 60 megawatts, commenced full-scale operations in Cox’s Bazar. Functioning smoothly since March 8, the plant supplies electricity directly to the national grid. Spearheaded by US-DK Green Energy BD Ltd and supported by the Chinese company SPIC Wuling Power Corporation, the $116.51 million project is a significant step in Bangladesh’s renewable energy journey. It’s set to generate 145 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing coal consumption by 44,600 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 109,200 tons. With several other wind projects underway across the country, Bangladesh aims to generate 10% of its electricity from renewables by 2025, aligning with its Sustainable Development Goals.
