Fixed Maximum Tariffs will be introduced for Mobile Data Packages

Industry: Telecom, Telecom & Mobile

Bangladesh’s telecom regulator, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), plans to introduce fixed maximum tariff rates for mobile data packages. The objective is to provide consumers with affordable and hassle-free connectivity services. The BTRC’s Systems and Services division is currently finalizing the conditions for implementing these rates. Stakeholder consultations, including mobile network operators, are underway to consider different industry perspectives.

The proposed rates aim to eliminate confusing and illogical data packages, fostering a more structured and consistent approach. This move will promote a balanced competitive landscape in the telecom industry. Before implementing the fixed maximum tariff rates for mobile data, the BTRC plans to conduct a study on the policy’s impact. The findings will be published as a white paper, allowing broadband customers and operators to provide their opinions. The BTRC will also hold public consultations to ensure transparency and gather feedback before enforcing a uniform data rate for mobile operators.

By establishing fixed maximum tariff rates, Bangladesh’s telecom regulator aims to simplify pricing structures, enhance affordability, and create a more competitive market environment for mobile data services.
