The ongoing flood in Noakhali has devastated 85,379 fish farms, resulting in losses of approximately Tk 576.50 crore. The affected areas include Noakhali Sadar, Begumganj, Kabirhat, Companiganj, Subarnachar, Chatkhil, and Sonaimuri, with Begumganj and Companiganj being the hardest hit. The flood has impacted thousands of fish farmers, including those who had significant investments and expectations for the season. For example, some farmers faced losses of up to Tk 7 crore and Tk 8 lakh due to the flood. The floods have washed away fish from 15,298 farms in Noakhali Sadar alone and caused losses of Tk 13.5 million in Subarnachar. The Noakhali District Fisheries Officer has requested financial assistance from the Department of Fisheries to support the affected farmers. The extent of the damage is expected to increase as the floodwaters recede.
