Floods Reduce Aman Rice Yield by 4.1%

Industry: Agro

Rice production in Bangladesh is expected to decline in the 2024-25 marketing year due to reduced Aman paddy acreage caused by repeated flooding. The US Department of Agriculture reports that two consecutive floods damaged around 3 lakh hectares of cropland, resulting in a 4.1% year-on-year reduction in Aman rice yield. Despite these challenges, farmers have managed to increase the average yield to 3.1 tonnes per hectare. However, the rising costs of production and inefficient supply chains have led to little to no profit for rice farmers, contributing to higher retail rice prices.
