The current national power grid in Bangladesh faces transmission disruptions when power generation exceeds 16,000 megawatts (MW). A smart grid system is being emphasized as a solution to this issue. The “Smart Grid Experience Day” workshop, organized by the Boston Consultant Group (BCG) with support from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), discussed these challenges. Bangladesh recently reached a peak power generation of 15,648 MW.
The development of a smart grid is seen as a way to enhance grid efficiency and address the existing problems. Synchronizing electricity generated from various sources is also a priority. International companies like General Electric (GE), Microsoft, IBM, and Oracle presented smart grid innovations during the workshop. This reflects Bangladesh’s commitment to modernizing its power infrastructure.
