Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have surged past $31 billion, thanks to $925 million in credit extended by three multilateral lenders: the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, International Development Agency, and Asian Development Bank. The reserves, which stood at $30.84 billion on Sunday, have witnessed a significant boost, aided by the higher inflow of remittances ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha festival 2023. In the first 25 days of this month alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent remittances amounting to $2.02 billion, compared to $1.28 billion during the same period last year. Overall, remittances for the fiscal year from July 1 to June 25 reached $21.43 billion, surpassing the $20.48 billion received during the corresponding period in the previous year. The rise in reserves is a positive indicator for Bangladesh’s economic stability and resilience in the face of global challenges.
