Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have surpassed $21 billion, bolstered by a $1 billion inflow from foreign lenders, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), over the past week. According to Bangladesh Bank, gross reserves stand at $21.35 billion under the IMF’s BPM-6 method, while the central bank’s calculation places it at $26.09 billion. Reserves were previously $21.78 billion in June 2024 but dipped to $20.16 billion earlier this week. Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Husne Ara Shikha attributed the rise to increased remittances and foreign loan disbursements. She added that further disbursements from international lending institutions are expected soon, providing additional support to the reserves and strengthening the country’s financial position.
