Forex Reserves Drop Below $15.82 Billion

Economic Tag: Forex

Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have declined to $15.82 billion, following the IMF guideline, marking a significant drop from the $48 billion recorded during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The increase in imports and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war have contributed to the recent decline. The latest report from the Bangladesh Bank indicates reserves of $19.52 billion as of November 23, considering the IMF’s BPM6 formula. Usable reserves now stand at $15.82 billion, reflecting a continuous process of spending and depositing foreign exchange. The country adopted the IMF-recommended BPM6 calculation in July, leading to a revised gross foreign exchange reserves of $23.56 billion.
