Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves increased by $1.08 billion to reach $20.4 billion, driven by the release of the second installment of an IMF loan and project support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The reserves saw a depletion trend for five months but have now rebounded, with positive contributions expected from remittance inflows and additional loan support in the current quarter.
The IMF has adjusted its net foreign exchange reserve target for Bangladesh from $26.8 billion to $17.78 billion for December. While the recent inflows provide temporary relief, experts highlight the need to assess the long-term impact on reserve expenditure amid upcoming debt support.
