The construction of a 20 km BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line along the Gazipur-Tongi-Uttar-Airport corridor is advancing swiftly to establish a comfortable, cost-effective, eco-friendly, modern, sustainable, and safe urban transport system. International tenders will be issued to procure 50 articulated buses specifically designed for this route, operating both on the ground and on elevated roads. With the implementation of this rapid transit system, the travel time on the Dhaka-Gazipur road will be reduced to just 40 minutes, and buses will be available every one and a half to three minutes. France is providing a loan of $300 million for this project, among others. A loan agreement has already been signed between the governments of Bangladesh and France, as announced in a press release by the Economic Relations Department (ERD) on June 25. The primary objective of these projects is to introduce a secure, cost-effective, and eco-friendly transport system by constructing a 20.50 km bus rapid transit infrastructure from Gazipur to Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
