As of August, gas distribution companies in Bangladesh face outstanding bills totaling over Tk 30,000 crore. The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and private power plants account for Tk 19,000 crore, while government fertilizer factories owe Tk 2,300 crore. Industrial and residential customers have about Tk 9,000 crore in unpaid bills. Efforts to disconnect illegal gas connections have intensified, with 186 raids conducted last year, saving 2 crore cubic feet of gas daily. From January to August, 95 raids disconnected 100,000 stoves and 74 industrial connections, saving Tk 1.41 crore per day.
