Bangladesh’s economy grew by 6.12% in Q3 (January-March) of FY2023-24, recovering from the previous quarter’s low of 3.78%, driven by significant growth in agriculture, industry, and services. To achieve the revised annual growth target of 5.8%, the economy needs to exceed 7% growth in the final quarter, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The GDP growth had fallen to 3.78% in Q2 from 6.01% in Q1. Despite a discrepancy in export figures from the previous fiscal year, which economist Mustafizur Rahman noted will alter GDP size but not growth, the average growth for the first three quarters stands at 5.3%.
BBS officials are using existing data for GDP calculations pending official updates. The GDP reached Tk13.48 billion in Q3, up from Tk11.44 billion the previous year. Contributions from agriculture, industry, and services sectors all saw notable increases.
