Genex Infosys and Navana Pharmaceuticals have joined the list of companies looking to invest in digital banks as Bangladesh aims to enhance financial inclusion through technology. Genex Infosys plans to invest Tk 125 million (about $1.47 million) in the proposed ‘UPAY Digital Bank PLC,’ while Navana Pharmaceuticals will invest Tk 75 million (about $882,000) in the same bank. A consortium of ten private commercial banks, including Dutch-Bangla Bank, City Bank, and others, are putting Tk 125 million each into ‘Digi10 Bank PLC.’ Other listed companies like ACI, Crystal Insurance, Pragati Insurance, Pragati Life Insurance, and Unique Hotel & Resorts are also lining up to invest in digital banks. The Bangladesh Bank invited applications for digital banks, with the application period ending recently.
